Bathroom and Laundry Ventilation

Assist with the prevention of mould in your bathroom or laundry by installing a ventilation system

Bathroom and Laundry Ventilation

When should a humidity sensor ventilation system be used?

Bathroom and Laundry Ventilation requirements do not vary significantly.  There are basic requirements which need to be assessed to determine the need for a ventilation system.

1. No current ventilation system

Areas such as bathrooms and laundries should always have a ventilation system to assist with moisture control and reducing elevated humidity.

2. High humidity

If areas have levels of humidity higher than 55% RH, a humidity sensor ventilation system is recommended.

3. Visible mould or a musty odour

Visible mould and musty odour indicates a source of moisture exists in room. Assisted air flow will assist with moisture control and humidity levels.

Why is bathroom ventilation and laundry ventilation so important?

Laundries and bathrooms are the two areas of a property which are most affected by mould. The common denominator in a bathroom and laundry is the use of water. It is not only the volume of water used but temperature of the water (higher) which increases the potential for condensation, high levels of relative humidity and inevitable mould formation and growth.

  • Consider using humidity sensor fans which automatically switch off once humidity falls below 55% RH (Relative humidity).

  • Ensure your clothes dryer has appropriate ventilation to external areas.
  • If possible install a ‘condenser style’ dryer rather than a vented version.

The Mould Doctor recommends the use of the Elegance MHY120 Ventilation Fan. It is the preferred laundry and bathroom ventilation fan of The Mould Doctor.
